Kindergarteners Share Thoughts on Love in Book They Created

What is Love?  Kristin Rex's kindergarten class posed the question in a recent class project. Inspired by Valentine’s Day in February, each child answered the question in a book they created entitled “Love Is.”

Love is sharing, according to Lilly.  It’s helping people, believes Mateo. It’s rainbows, hearts, hugs, and giving, says Emilia. It’s birthdays and starbursts, remarks Vera. Each interpretation (which they wrote and spelled themselves) is accompanied with an illustration in the child’s own hands.

At the end of the unit, Mrs. Rex sent the book to Studentreasures Publishing to have the student’s work compiled in a book that arrived in late March.  Each student was given a copy to read and enjoy on his or her own.  “I’m so proud of the authors and illustrators my students are becoming,” says Rex.
