Derbin Brothers Double up on Awards

Cuyahoga Heights High School Seniors (and twins) Michael and Jeffrey Derbin both competed in the Ohio Business Professionals of America (BPA) Regional Competition in February. Both took home first-place and second-place awards and as such, both earned the opportunity to compete at the state competition to be held March 9-10 in Columbus, Ohio. 

Michael won first place in the Economic Research-judged event and second place in the Device Configuration and Troubleshooting contest. He also earned a medal for finishing in the top ten in Computer Network Technology. For the Economic Research event, he had to complete a research paper on a provided topic using the BPA format and present it to a judge. He had to take exams for the Device Configuration and Troubleshooting and the Computer Network Technology contest. Michael is enrolled in the Computer Networking II program at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center (CVCC). 

Meanwhile, Jeffrey won a first-place award in the Fundamentals of Web Design category and in the SQL (Structured Query Language) Fundamentals category. He had to build a website for the first competition and take an exam for the second.  He also won second place in Java Programming in which he had to write a program using Java language) and second place in the Website Design Team category. He was part of a group that built and presented a website. Jeffrey is enrolled in the Programming and Software II program at CVCC.
